Technorati: Building Your Website Traffic

With over 12 million American adults currently maintaining their own blog and more than 147 million Americans using the internet, tools that make it easier to track blog updates and organize web links are valuable indeed. is one of those sites. It offers you tools to help catalog your favorite sites and blogs, and it will send you an email alert when the blogs you are tracking are updated. Techorati currently tracks 112.8 million discussions and over 250 pieces of tagged social media.

According to Technorati data:

... there are over 175,000 new blogs (that’s just blogs) every day. Bloggers update their blogs regularly to the tune of over 1.6 million posts per day or over 18 updates a second.

When bloggers link to and comment on other blogs, Technorati tracks these links, rapidly indexing tens of thousands of updates every hour. Blogs are then given an authority rating, based on how many other blogs they are cross-linked to.

You can place Technorati tags on every post you make to your blog, automtically pinging Technorati each time you make a new post. Technorati then alerts all or your tag subscribers to your new post, inviting traffic to your site to read the full message.

Capitalizing on a good thing, Technorati sells popular tags to advertisers, so that advertisers can place highly relevant information on the tag preferences, bringing new definition to the idea of market targeting.

Technorati also offers browser plugins, mini-applications and other helpful utilities.

The Ticker Widget displays a real-time feed of what users are searching on in real-time. The Top Tags Widget allows you to display your blog’s top tags and those of Technorati’s publishers.  With the Technorati Authority Widget, you can show visitors your status as a knowledgeable blogger.

Not a blogger? Technorati can still help you....

LinkedIn: Growing Your Professional Network

With more than 17 million experienced professionals from around the world, representing 150 industries, LinkedIn is to professionals what Myspace is to kids. Known as "the MySpace for grown-ups, LinkedIn helps people expand their business network and build their careers and businesses.  Noted for its professionalism, it is attractive to many because of the large number of high-level executives that have become members.

When you join, you create a profile summarizing your professional accomplishments.  This profile helps you find and be found by other members in search of associates and contacts.  With LinkedIn you can find potential clients, service providers or subject experts, and you can post and distribute job listings.

LinkedIn just released a feature called “Viewers of this profile also viewed…”, which shows other profiles related to the ones you are looking at. They also offer features such as: “People you might know” and “Who’s viewed my profile."

Something to Think about:

"Humans are allergic to change. They love to say, "We've always done it this way." I try to fight that. That's why I have a clock on my wall that runs counter-clockwise."
