MySpace.com, the immensely popular social networking portal targeting 16 to 34 year olds, was purchased by the U.K. based News Corporation, a Rupert Murdock company, in 2005 for $508 million. MySpace.com was started in 2003 by Tom Anderson, Chris DeWolfe, and their programming buddies, several years after Anderson graduated from film studies at UCLA.

There seems to be much speculation, lately, about the demise of television because of the increasing popularity of mobile phone broadcasts and advertising over internet TV. With the faster internet speeds and the growing concentration of mobile phone and internet users, television watching is thought to be decreasing.

Cell phone and internet usage is more integrated in daily lives in Japan than it is in the U.S. In 2004 there were an estimated 75 million mobile phone internet access subcribers in Japan, and in 2005 that number grew to 80.1 million. 94.2 % of email user in Japan access the internet by PC and 87.7% access by mobile phones.

Fine Art or Commercial Art?

When the creation of art is based on personal interpretation for the sake of communicating mood or symbolism as opposed to servicing commerce, the result may be considered fine art rather than commercial or utilitarian visual communication. Is the fine art in art somehow better?
