Fall TV Premiers on Internet before TV

Marketing TrendsHulu.com, owned by NBC Universal and News Corp, will be airing the Fall Line-up of TV Premiers before they are run on TV. Hulu has launched teasers of the new, third season Heroes, and will be releasing a series of other favorites one week before they air on broadcast television.
In the past TV studios have staunchly preferred to stick to the business models of the past — TV first, avoid the internet. That they are now re-considering points to significant, emerging change in internet revenue streams. it will be interesting to see what happens to TV.
Techcrunch suggests this all started with Google’s purchase of YouTube, putting YouTube at the center of Google’s marketing mix plans for interactive media. In May, Hulu was said to have run 88 million videos compared to 4.2 billion for YouTube.
Hulu’s advantages to advertisers are controlled, professional entertainment, readily accessible and specific viewer demographics, and targeting. It’s on our watch list.
