Technorati: Building Your Website Traffic

With over 12 million American adults currently maintaining their own blog and more than 147 million Americans using the internet, tools that make it easier to track blog updates and organize web links are valuable indeed. is one of those sites. It offers you tools to help catalog your favorite sites and blogs, and it will send you an email alert when the blogs you are tracking are updated. Technorati currently tracks 112.8 million discussions and over 250 pieces of tagged social media.  

According to Technorati data:

  ... there are over 175,000 new blogs (that’s just blogs) every day. Bloggers update their blogs regularly to the tune of over 1.6 million posts per day or over 18 updates a second.

When bloggers link to and comment on other blogs, Technorati tracks these links, rapidly indexing tens of thousands of updates every hour. Blogs are then given an authority rating, based on how many other blogs they are cross-linked to.

You can place Technorati tags on every post you make to your blog, automtically pinging Technorati each time you make a new post. Technorati then alerts all of your tag subscribers to your newest post, inviting visitors to your site to read the full message.

Capitalizing on a good thing, Technorati sells popular tags to advertisers, so that advertisers can place highly relevant information on content associated with tag preferences, bringing new definition to the idea of market targeting.

Technorati also offers browser plugins, widgets, and other helpful utilities. 

The Ticker Widget displays a real-time feed of what users are searching on right now. The Top Tags Widget displays the most popular tags used by Technorati members. 

Not a blogger? Technorati has browser buttons you can install directly on your browser. With the Technorati This! widget, you can select any text on any website that you are visiting, click the Technorati This! widget in your browser, and find out which blogs are also using that text and what bloggers are saying about the topic you have highlighted.

The Link Count Widget will display the number of links to each of your posts and can be used on either your blog or your non-blog website. It tracks the number of links or "reactions" that other bloggers have to your content, encouraging readers to follow conversations.

Whether you choose to blog or maintain a website, the Technorati Chart widget allows you to enter any term to see a chart of how many blogs have used that term in specific time period. You can search for your company name or something you blog about frequently, to show how popular the search term is and what people are saying about your company.
